The work of The Fuller Center for Housing here and in the world differs profoundly from so much of the charitable giving directed at the poor. We make a deliberate distinction between giving TO people in need and partnering WITH people in need.

The families the Fuller Center partners WITH are highly motivated, hardworking, independent minded people who eagerly reach out and grasp the hand of opportunity that you and I extend to them out of love – the same love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ gives to everyone.

The families “help build or renovate their new home and then they pay for it on terms they can afford with no interest charged. By the time the house is paid for, it is truly theirs, something they’ve sweated over and worked for.”
And what is the opportunity these families seek? To have a home of their own–likely the greatest single asset they will ever have. But they don’t seek it as a gift– as charity. As David Snell, President of The Fuller Center, recently noted, The families “help build or renovate their new home and then they pay for it on terms they can afford with no interest charged. By the time the house is paid for, it is truly theirs, something they’ve sweated over and worked for.”

There is no better example of this commitment to partnership than the Rodriguez family WITH whom we are currently building. Lizbette and Luis have together contributed more than 1000 hours of sweat equity and members of their family have given generously of their time and talent as well. When it is done they will truly appreciate having a decent place to call home and a dignified house to raise their children in.

In a few weeks the Rodriguez Family will move into their new home and you will have an opportunity to celebrate WITH them at their house blessing. Chances are you’ve donated to this cause or volunteered or both. None of this would be possible without you – so on behalf of all of us here and perhaps more importantly, the families whose lives you’ve changed – thank you!

And get ready, because in 2015 we begin anew partnering WITH more families in need of decent, safe and affordable housing. We invite you to continue supporting this great movement to end poverty housing with your generous gifts of treasure and time.

Graham Houston,
